What do you do to make yourself feel pretty?

First of all, I think that regardless of the amount of make-up a woman has on, the most important thing is that she is well groomed and polished. A nice and clean outfit, pretty hair, a little bit of perfume go a long way.

What are the other things you can do to make yourself feel pretty?

 painting your nails

 threaded eyebrows

taking care of your skin- home spa

 natural looking make-up

moisturize with a nice smelling lotion

 accessorize

a new hair style, just to get out of the routine

 eating healthy and exercising.

 exfoliate your body

 wear heels

 hot bath with essential oils

What would you add to the list?

Funny things I saw today!

I like amusing myself and as I am not selfish, I want to share with you some cute and funny pics that hopefully will make you laugh or at least put a smile on your face.:)

First of all one of the most epic "Friends" moments:

Then, I hope nobody gets offended by this, but come on it is funny!

Warning! Makeup can be very misleading!

True story!

Beauty things I suck at!

I loved to read or watch other posts with this title because, well to be honest they made me feel better and realize I am not the only one who even after watching 15746 videos on how to apply liquid eyeliner, I still don't manage to do it perfectly.

Besides my love hate relationship with liquid eyeliner, here are some other things I am not good at:

painting my nails. I have a decent collection of nail polishes, I love buying new ones, I love having my nails painted at all times, I just don't like painting them myself because well..it can get pretty messy, but I am not giving up on this.

styling my hair, french braids especially. So I just stick to basic things and I am ok with it. I mean I like to let my hair as it is so I don't suffer much for not being able to do a french braid, whereas with painting my nails I can get really annoyed sometimes.

face masks. While I am very good with face creams, eye cream, removing my make-up every night (a little bragging there) I apply face masks once a month maybe. I just purchased a new face mask from the Body Shop and I promised myself I will start using it regularly and hopefully I will not be disappointed.

So my secrets have been revealed. Now that I confessed the beauty things I suck at, it is your turn to reveal yours.:)

Beauty lessons

...Or what I have learnt along the way.

Do a thorough research before buying a product. Some time ago, I would buy a product if the packaging looked good or if it was on sale or if it just seemed like it would suit me. Nowadays, after having failed with some of the purchases, I make sure I read product reviews before buying something and that has helped saving up my money a lot and discovering things that would really suit my needs.

Only use products that are gentle with your skin. I used to scrub my face with very rough cleansers, some of which I made myself by using sugar or coffee or other kind of ingredients. I think this is a really bad idea because you irritate your skin and tear the cells apart. Now I make sure to buy only cleansers that are very mild, such as Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser.

Be extra careful when buying foundation. I see too many girls on the street these days looking either too orange or like they are wearing a mask. It is important to get a foundation that matches your skin tone, that would blend easily into your neck and not one that is darker. It is a common mistake to buy foundation that is darker than your skin tone in order to cover up any imperfections. This is the concealer's job, the foundation's job is to give you an overall even color.

I believe same precaution should be taken with the blush. Some blushes are very pigmented so a little goes a long way. I think blushes are amazing if you use them just to give you a subtle color on your cheeks.

Use an eye cream even if you are only in your twenties. It is easier to prevent than to repair. The skin around the eyes is much more delicate than the rest of the face so I do think it needs special attention.

When it comes to makeup, I believe the "less is more" strategy is suitable. The purpose of makeup is to emphasize your beauty and your features, not to transform you into a whole different person.

I am sure each one of you learnt things throughout your beauty journeys. Please share! :)

Brushes vs Fingers

What is your choice? I thought I would share with you this article from Vogue where some make-up PROS reveal what they prefer.

brushes vs fingers

I will start with those who prefer brushes:

"Unlike fingers, brushes will place and distribute cream-based products evenly, so that they don't sit in any pores. There are so many amazing brushes out there, why would you not use them?" (Sharon Dowsett, Maybelline's UK director of make-up).

"The dexterity, blending and precision you can achieve with a brush is an instant translation of prints and textures I have in my mind. (Alex Box, make-up artist and creative director of Illamasqua make-up).

"There's nothing that can replace the precision work a brush allows all over the face." (Gucci Westman, global artistic director for Revlon).

And my favorite one:

"I love working with brushes because I like to buff, blend and really work the product in. "Painting a face is like painting a canvas and great tools get you fantastic results. (Valgarland, backstage at Antonio Berardi)

Now moving on to the fingers side:

"There's just something about melting product into the skin with the fingers, as opposed to layering it on with brushes which somehow feels cakey and unsexy." (Hannah Murray, creative director of Topshop make-up).

"The heat of your fingers helps smooth on the product with speed and little effort. Lip brushes in particular are something of the past. Lipstick applied directly from the bullet is the way to go. (Mary Greenwell, Chanel make-up artist).

"Nothing beats the final hands-on touch. It is the only way to feel how much product is actually on the skin." (Kay Montano, session and studio make-up artist).

"I like using the pads of hands to bask make-up on to cheekbones; it means that there will be no visible stripes of application." (Andrew Gallimore, UK make-up ambassador for Dior).

Which team are you on? Brushes or fingers?

OPI what a pair!

My recent obsession is with nail polish. I confess, I love buying nail polish, especially if it is from Essie or OPI. Both brands have such amazing colors that only the price keeps me from buying a dozen of them. The problem is my nails are not happy with me constantly painting them, removing nail polish, painting them again and they started to get weaker and split, which I hate. So I thought it is time to fight back and then is why I bought the set of 2 OPI nail strengtheners today.

I really really hope it works. I read some reviews on the original Nail Envy and it is a very loved product among women so I hope I will love it as well and and I hope I will be able to say in a few weeks time that these 2 products are my Holy Grail as far as nails are concerned, just as Bioderma is my Holy Grail as far as my face is concerned.

What do you do to keep your nails healthy and pretty? Keeping them away from nail polish is not accepted as an answer.

Youtubers that I follow

If you had asked me a few years ago what YouTube is for, I would have clearly said "well music of course, what else?". Now my answer would be totally different because I love watching videos about makeup, beauty and all that stuff that only makes me want to buy unnecessary things. But as long as I can resist the urge to empty my wallet, I find those videos really useful because unlike magazines, you can see real people using different products and giving personal advice. I don't trust magazines anymore, but there are some very few youtubers that I do trust, because I followed some of their recommendations and I am glad I did.

My favorite YouTuber is Missglamorazzi. I always watch her videos the moment they are uploaded, because I really enjoy listening to her. Her voice doesn't annoy me and she is just so lovely and nice all the time. Plus she doesn't pretend to be a makeup artist or anything, she just stayed the same girl throughout the years, although she just reached 1 million subscribers!

Another Youtuber that is really, really, REALLY worth following is Lisa Eldridge. She is a real makeup artist, she did Cara Delavigne's, Kylie Minogue's makeup and many others. Her advice is priceless.

I also follow FleurDeForce, which is a good friend of Missglamorazzi and lives in England. She is also very nice and the fact that she lives in England maks it easier to find the products that I think are worth buying, while the products recommended by the US youtubers are not that reachable.

Last but not least, I recently discovered Essie Button. She is a Canadian who's moved to England a while ago and she is hilarious!

The things that all these girls have in common is that they still keep their feet on the ground, they are nice and natural, they don't brag and their advice is worth taking into consideration. I used to get bored while watching beauty videos on Youtube but now I find them really useful and I think the secret is to just stick to the youtubers that you really like.
